Dorothy, 83, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, January 10, at the Peru United Methodist Church in Peru, Iowa. Burial will be in the Peru Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on February 21, 1931, at Winterset, Iowa to Ray and Helen (Frey) Vannatta. She was married on June 27, 1948 at Winterset to Dean Decker.
A life-long resident of Madison County she was tireless in her love for family, friends and community. Dorothy was a long time and very active member of the Peru United Methodist Church, she volunteered for the Winterset Public Library, volunteered her time and skills to the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and the Madison County Historical Museum, and was a member of the Madison County Coon Hunters Association.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Dean Decker; sons, Donnie (Judy) Decker and Ronnie (Nellene) Decker; daughter, Donna (Marty) Davis; sister, Mary Lou Andrews; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Helen (Frey) Vannatta; and son-in-law, James Werts.
Visitation will be Friday from noon to 8 PM at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM. Memorials given to the family will be directed to Peru United Methodist Church.
