James Bricker was the son of Jacob and Rosannah Ireland Bricker and was born near Mount Vernon, in Knox County, Ohio, November 23, 1839 and died at Winterset, Iowa, May 25, 1929, aged 89 years, 7 months, 2 days.

His wife, Amy Bricker, died at Dexter, Iowa, February 14, 1917.

James had six brothers and sisters. Six preceded him in death. His mother died when he was eleven years old leaving him in the care of his sister, Sarah, thirteen years old, also one brother, Cephas, who was five years old.

About two years later the father married, bringing into the home, three foster brothers and two foster sisters.

James, the last member of his family, was laid to rest at Penn Center cemetery, May 27, 1929, Rev. Arthur Keast, pastor of Winterset Methodist Church officiating. The service was held at Ramsey’s funeral home.

Those present of his relatives were Mr. and Mrs. John Piatt, Florence and Jennie Piatt, Mrs. Hartman, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Penn, Don, Agatha, and Dale Penn, George and Walter Piatt, Mr. and Mrs. Griswold and grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bricker, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Bricker, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Lewis, Mrs. Al Byrne and Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Benson, Marie and Eleanor Benson.
