Robert John Boyd, St. Charles

Robert J. Boyd of St Charles, Ia., passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Des Moines Iowa VA Hospital. Born in Manning, North Dakota on January 13, 1930, he was the son of Robert W. Boyd and Frances H. (Ronish) Boyd.

Robert joined the U.S. Navy in 1947, serving the next nine years on the USS Theodore E. Chandler (DD-717). Robert served all over the Pacific and received many accolades and medals including the China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the Navy Occupational Service Medal. After leaving the Navy he worked as a welder, heavy equipment operator and butcher at Amend Packing Co. in Des Moines. He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, AFTN Post 10249. He loved working in his shop rebuilding engines of any kind. His family and friends will always remember him as a man of integrity.

Robert was preceded in death by his father and mother, his grandparents, wife Sharon and sister Darleen Fitchett. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie of over 40 years; sons, Darrin Lull of St Charles, IA, Dr. Robert W. Boyd II and wife Dr. Joann Neubauer of Willmar, MN, Dustin Lull of Ankeny, IA; daughter, Angie Hotman and husband Mike of Indianola, IA; and grandchildren, Cassadey Lull, Hannah Boyd, Robert J. Boyd II and Cody Hotman; nephew, Alanson (Loy) Fitchett; great nieces and nephew, Kate Blansit, Adam Fitchett, Brenda Davis. Robert requested his body be donated to Des Moines University and for no services to be held.
