Clarence F. Johnson, 82, passed from this life on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, December 6, at Waukee United Methodist Church, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will take place at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, at Penn Center Cemetery in rural Earlham, IA.
Clarence was born on May 14, 1932 in Ann Arbor, MI, to B. Lamar and Agnes Gail (Nyholm) Johnson. The family moved to Columbia, MO, where he was a graduate of Hickman High School. Clarence graduated from Park College in Parkville, MO. He was an elementary school teacher in Iowa and Greeley, CO.
Clarence married Winifred I. Nellis in 1959 and they made their home in Greeley, CO, until moving to the Village in Waukee, IA. He enjoyed the mountains of Colorado, pencil sketching and art. Clarence was active member in the First United Presbyterian Church in Greeley, especially interested in foreign missions. He could remember verses to hymns and enjoyed concerts. Clarence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Winifred Johnson of Waukee; sisters-in-law, Susan Diamond and Gloria Johnson both of California and Bonnie Arnburg of Earlham, IA; brother-in-law, Howard (Roselea) Nellis of Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, B. Lamar Johnson Jr. and Karl Johnson; and brother-in-law, Max Arnburg.
The family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed to: Waukee United Methodist Church, 650 Ashworth Drive, Waukee, IA 50263; HCI Hospice Care Services, 2910 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA 50266; or a favorite charity of choice .
