March 22, 1922 - October 30, 2014

Gene Madsen, 92, of Winterset, died Thursday, October 30, 2014, at the Winterset Care Center South.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 4th at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m., Monday, November 3rd at Ochiltree Funeral Service, in Winterset, where family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church and Central Iowa Hospice and online condolences may be made to the family at ochiltree.com .

Eugene W. Madsen was born March 22, 1922 in Guthrie County, Iowa, the son of Willie and Matilda (Mowry) Madsen. He grew up in Adair County and Guthrie County near Casey, Iowa and served in the United State Navy from 1942-1945. He married LaVerne “Pinky” (Egger) Madsen on July 26, 1946 and they moved to Winterset in 1947.

Gene barbered in Winterset for over 50 years and retired in 1987. He was a member of the American Legion Post 184 for over 60 years, served his church in various positions, and held several offices in the Lions Club. He volunteered in other organizations such as the Madison County Historical Site and the Madison County Fair.

He is survived by his wife Pinky of Winterset; his children, Greg (Carol) Madsen of Nevada and Connie (Doug) Jackson of Broomfield, CO; four grandchildren, Michelle (Marcus) Wermers, Brian (Andrea) Madsen, Nate (Megy) Jackson and Nicole (Todd) O’Rourke and six great-grandchildren, Theo Wermers, Kai Madsen, Ellory Madsen, Mia Jackson, Zoey Jackson and Kensi O’Rourke; brother, Bill (Dixie) Madsen of Cedar Falls and many nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dorothy (Jim) Kimm, Evelyn (Fred) Christensen and Norma (Bud) Egger.
