Thursday, November 22, 1906DEATH OF MRS. SARAH ANN GLAZE
OLD RESIDENT IS GONE
Sketch of Life of a Well Known Osceola Woman—Funeral Monday
Sarah Anna Harlan Glaze, the second child of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Harlan was born in Winterset, Ia., Sept. 8th, 1857 and died at her home in Osceola Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m., aged 49 years, 2 months and 9 days.
Mrs. Glaze’s death came after a long, lingering illness and was not unexpected by the members of the family yet, her death is very sad, as it cuts her down in the midst of life and calls her from her family who needs her tender, motherly, watchful care and guidance. She leaves beside these, one sister, Mrs. Mattie Young, of Winterset, Ia., and two brothers John and Will of Winterset.
Her malady was nervous exhaustion. The attack came in a serious form last February. Mr. Glaze went to the Adventist Sanitarium in Des Moines in the early summer where she remained for some time but no relief was afforded her and she came home. Two later visits were made to the same hospital but with no benefit. Slowly she grew worse until the dread disease affected her whole system, mind and body.
Mrs. Glaze grew to womanhood in Winterset, the place of her birth. Here she was educated. At the age of 21 years she went to Ottumwa where she remained for some time. It was here that she met and loved William A. Glaze. From here she went to Leavenworth, Kan., where she worked in a printing office for some months. Then she went to Omaha where she was married to Mr. Glaze, on Nov. 10th, 1877. After their marriage they lived in Ottumwa for a short time, later going to Madison Mills, Ohio, where Mr. Glaze and his brother owned a flouring mill. Here they lived some 3 years when they moved to Leon, Ia., where he engaged in transfer business, remaining about four years. From Leon they came to Osceola in 1887, engaging in hotel business. Later they went to Leon finally locating in Osceola in 1901.
Mrs. Glaze was the mother of three children: Mrs. Edna Adkins, Ben and Hazel, all of whom survive their mother, and together with the husband are left to mourn for their truest friend.
Mrs. Glaze was a woman of tenderest sympathies in the home; a devoted and loving wife; a friend and neighbor to all who knew her. Her hands and heart have always been busy with the world’s work. She has shared in its sorrows and defeats, yet she struggled on and upward with a smiling face.
Sister Glaze gave her hear to her Master when she was seventeen years of age, and united with the Methodist church at Winterset. She placed her letter with the Methodist church here, and remained faithful to her Lord.
The funeral services were held from the Christian church Monday, November 19th at 3 p.m. The poor tired body was tenderly laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery.
