Marion Collier died, January 29, at 7:30 p. m., after being confined to his bed for four or five weeks with Bright’s disease. He was at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Isaac Fouch where he has lived the past year. His age was 63 years, 8 months and 27 days.

He was one of the pioneers of Clarke county, coming to Washington township in 1865, from Madison county, but he was born in Tennessee and grew to manhood there. In September 1864 he entered the army and was a member of Co. I, 15th Iowa till the end of the war. He incurred disease that probably shortened his life in that time. He was married to Miss Ellen DeLong, who died fifteen years or more ago, leaving him with one son Ralph and four daughters, Mrs. Isaac Fouch and Mrs. Chas. Switzer of this county, Mrs. Frank Tomlinson of Peru, and Miss Mabel Collier.

Mr. Collier was universally esteemed for his sterling honesty and attempt to make his way through live cheerfully under serious handicaps of ill health and so forth. He was a good neighbor faithful to every trust reposed in him, and a kind father whose death is felt as a keen bereavement.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mullen at the church in Washington township at 2:30 p. m. the 31st. Thus has gone from among us a well known citizen and one of that band of heroes of the war so fast departing.
