Marguerite Holley, Nevada

Marguerite Holley died August 9, 2014, at Rolling Green Village, Nevada, at the age of 97. Marguerite was born April 5, 1917, to Glen P. and Opal L. (Clark) Elderkin in rural Madison County. She was educated in the rural school systems of the time and became a country school teacher at a young age. When World War II began, she moved to Des Moines, where she worked at the Army Air Depot. After the war, she gained employment at Holley Office and School Supply in Des Moines, where she met and married John M. Holley. In 1947, they moved the printing department of the store to Nevada, where they founded Graphic Forms, Inc., a business forms manufacturer. Marguerite remained the corporate secretary well into the 1980's.

Marguerite retained her interest in education her entire life and served on the Nevada School Board. Together with her husband, John, they instigated the Graphic Forms Scholastic Awards program for the Nevada Community Schools, and she was later presented the first Friend of Education award given by the schools. Marguerite was a Girl Scout leader for Troop #93 for many years, camping out well into her fifties, and involved in many other activities with her daughter and son. She enjoyed playing bridge in several different bridge groups and was a member of the Nevada Christian Church and PEO. Marguerite loved cats and nature walks and watching song birds. The neighborhood children always visited her house on Halloween to receive her homemade fudge.

Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Deborah, son-in-law Kenneth Blackledge, and her grandchildren, Sabrina and Royce, and her son, John Holley II, daughter-in-law Debbie, and her grandson Andrew, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, Glen and Opal Elderkin, her sisters Florence Peterson, Dawn Brueck, and Mary Newton and their spouses, and her brothers, Frank, and John Elderkin, and their spouses.

Funeral services will be held at a later date in Nevada. Her remains have been cremated and they will be interred at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines following the service. A memorial will also be decided later.
