De Ann Bidler was born March 4, 1962 in Des Moines to Jerry and Jo Ann (Hildreth) Bidler. She grew up in Ankeny and graduated from Ankeny High School in 1980. Later she went on to serve in the Air Guard and the United States Air Force. She married Rocky Clovis Potter and to this union her three children were born. Later she married Jeffrey Smith on October 14, 2006 in Humeston. She and Jeffrey lived in Winterset since November of 2013 and prior to that had lived in Des Moines and Humeston.

De Ann worked for Wells Fargo Bank in their Real Estate Tax Division for the past 17 years as a tax specialist. She was a voracious reader who loved to escape into a book or her I reader anytime she could. She also loved to bake and fish, but with all this said, she loved nothing more than time spent with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Smith of Winterset; her three children, Nathan Potter of Ankeny, Joe (Spring) Potter of St. Charles, and Brittany Potter of Ankeny; her parents, Jerry and Jo Ann Bidler of Ankeny, two brothers, Robert Bidler of Ankeny and John (Jennifer) Bidler of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Payton Potter and Miranda Potter, extended family and a host of friends.
