JOHN DALE GALLENTINE, Carlisle

Mar. 24, 1926 - Feb. 20, 2014

John Dale Gallentine, 87, of Carlisle, Iowa, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.  A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 24, 2014, at Montpelier Cemetery in Madison County, Iowa with Rev. Jeremiah Smart officiating.  Burial will be in the Montpelier Cemetery at Madison County, Iowa.

John was born on March 24, 1926, at Marshall County, Iowa to Harry and Veronica (Everley) Gallentine. He was a graduate of Van Cleave High School in Van Cleave, Iowa and later served in the military during the Korean Conflict. He was married on January of 1976 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Marjorie Evelyn Ilene Hayden.  He had spent most of his life in the Des Moines and Carlisle area and had been a miller in the flour industry.  He belonged to the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

John is survived by his wife, Marjorie Gallentine of Carlisle; son, Guy Gallentine of Wichita, Kansas; stepson, Teddy Schermerhorn of Billings, Montana; stepdaughter, Sheryll Eidenschink; brother, Maynard "Bud" Gallentine of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Beth Gilgen of Marshalltown and Garnett McKay of Rock Island, IL; two grandchildren, Amy Shively and Crystal Gallentine; step grandchildren, Randy Auten and Anita Holverson; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Veronica (Everley) Gallentine; stepson, Gary Schemerhorn; and brother, Vern Gallentine.

Visitation will be Monday, February 24, from 9 to 10:30 AM at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home.  Memorials may be directed to his family.
