Page 6, Columns 4 & 5Mary Arabella King, daughter of Noah M. and Mary E. Close King, was born in Madison county north of Patterson on Nov. 6, 1865, and passed away at 5:15 p.m. Nov. 20, 1947 at the age of 82 years and 14 days. She was one of 16 children born to her parents.
When but a small child, she with her parents moved to Adams county, and it was there she grew to womanhood, and in 1885 was married to Frank Strait. Mr. Strait was killed by lightning the same year and she returned to her family home. On July 16, 1889 she was married to Benjamin F. Myers who on August 8, 1931 preceded her in death. From 1889 until 1901 Mr. and Mrs. Myers lived near Corning, and there four of their five children, Mrs. Florence Wolf of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Ada Jolley of Des Moines; Mrs. Helen Heimberger of Adel and William of Booneville, were born.
In 1901 the family moved to their farm home 1 mile east of Dexter, where their youngest child, Mrs. Lenore Sulgrove, of Dexter was born. The five children, as well as 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren, survive.
Mrs. Myers is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Frank Barker of Oakville, Manitoba, Can., and by four brothers: Gus of Shenandoah, Grant and Charles of Omaha, Neb., and Howard King of Alvin, Tex.
Mrs. Myers was a member of the Methodist Church, and has taken an active part in all of the work of the church during her many years in Dexter. She and her husband were always active in all local charitable works, and in these she continued after his death. During the first years after Mr. Myers death, Mrs. Myers spent much time in California, where she made many friends.
In recent years her health has been such that she remained in Dexter, where she and Mrs. Sulgrove have made their home, and although ill, she remained active and interested in all her friends and in the D.T. club of which she was a member. Some months past her health became seriously impaired that she required hospital care, and her passing came as a release from months of illness.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 23, from her home and the Dexter Methodist church, in charge of her pastor assisted by a former pastor, Rev. J. Neal Clemmer. Six grandsons were the casket bearers: Billy Ben Myers, Jimmy Myers, Walter Heimberger, Donald Willett, Bruce Myers and Ray Jolley. Mrs. Lewis Webb rendered two vocal solos. Interment was in the Dexter cemetery.
