David Hoblit

David Hoblit was born in Clinton county, O. March 18, 1832, and died at his late residence in Sioux City, Oct. 8, 1920, aged 87 year 6 months and 20 days.

Mr. Hoblit enlisted on Aug. 4, 1860 and was honorably discharged in December on account of disability.

He was married to Sarah Whitworth in Bureau county, Illinois, June 16, 1862. In the early sixties he came westward and settled in Winterset, afterward purchasing a farm near Macksburg. After farming in Iowa he decided to move to Nebraska, but settled finally in Sioux City, where he lived for 30 years.

He was the father of 10 children, Elmer of Gregory, S. D.; Melvin of Brocksburg, Neb.; Luella Rhodes of Hastings, Nebraska; Clara Beaubien of Sioux City; May Weger of St. Paul; Olive Draper of Sioux City, Glenn of Remsen, Ia., and Leon of Sioux City. Two sons met death by accident, Oliver being drowned during the Sioux City flood and Fred being struck by lightning. He also leaves a kind and devoted wife, forty-three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many neighbors and friends to mourn his death.

Funeral services were conducted at the home on Sunday, October 10. The sons and sons-in-law were pallbearers. At the grave the Grand Army held its service. Many beautiful floral offerings were given by those who knew him best. Among those present from a distance for a brother-in-law and nephew Marley and Byro Whitworth of Macksburg.

Transcriber's note: Transcribed as published. The 12th Illinois Infantry in which he served was not formed until April 1861 and records show his date of enlistment to be April 19, 1861.
