July 8, 1937 - April 24, 2014

Marian Close, 76, of Winterset, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 3rd at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. As per her wishes, Marian has been cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (www.arl-iowa.org).

Marian was born on July 8, 1937 to Andrew and Anna (Licavoli) Garofalo in St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up in St. Louis and attended Normandy High School. She lived in and around St. Louis until moving to Winterset in 2007.

In addition to being a homemaker, raising her children, Marian also worked as a secretary with the Behlmann Construction Company in St. Louis for many years.

Marian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winterset and she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cross-stitch and trips with her sister. All this said, Marian was most of all a devoted mother, sister and grandmother who loved nothing more than time with her family.

Marian is survived by her two children, Susan Flaker of Florissant, MO and Dan (Susan) Close of Chesterfield, MO. She is also survived by two sisters, Rosetta Emery of Winterset; Nina Oberbeck of Kansas; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Alicia Flaker and Celia, Evan and Seth Close; two great grandchildren, Landon and Adelyn; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, William and Robert Garofalo.
