Obituary Notice

The funeral of James D. Carter took place from his late residence in Scott township on Monday, May 13th, Dr. Robertson conducting the services. Mr. Carter died suddenly soon after 1 o'clock a. m., May 11th, of neuralgia of the heart. He was sick but half an hour and spoke twice during that time. His suffering was so intense God graciously relieved him from his pain. He had been in feeble health for two years and had suffered several severe attacks but was in his usual health when he retired at night, little thinking ere the morning dawned he would have entered into the kingdom of his Heavenly Father. It is a consoling thought to his friends that he is in peaceful rest. He had at various times during his feebleness expressed his readiness to abide by the will of his Lord and Master.

A wife and six children mourn the loss of a kind husband and devoted parent. Four of the children were present at the funeral. Mrs. Dyer, of Bainbridge, Ind., Mrs. Fairfield, Sanborn, Iowa, and James and Maurice Carter. Mrs. Wright of Colorado and Mrs. Daff of Nebraska failed to reach here.

Mr. Carter was born at Crab Orchard, Ky., July 23, 1817. He married Cynthia Graves Oct. 13th, 1836; by this marriage they had eight children. One boy and three girls are still living. He married Priscilla Daggy October 19, 1854. They had two children. He married Keziah E. James Sept. 14th, 1879. By this union they had one child, a boy who is deprived of a loving father at the tender age of six years. The grieved ones have the tender sympathy of a wide circle of kind and generous friends.
