Hallie Dixon Canty, 88, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, March 13, 2014.
Hallie was born January 2, 1926 in Huntington, West Virginia to Pete and Margaret (Carroll) Canty. He was a truck driver for many years. Hallie loved spending time with his family. He liked watching NASCAR and wrestling. One of his heroes was John Wayne and he had a passion for Harley Davidsons.
Hallie is survived by his children, Rita Simmons, Virginia (Bill) Anderson, Peggy Canty (Rick Noble), Charles Canty, Lisa Canty (Barry Dickey), Kay Ann Canty, and Bobbie Jo (Jim) Schermerhorn; seventeen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Knootz; and in-laws, Melvin and Judy Yates and Phyllis Lanz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris; grandson, David; two sisters and two brothers.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. There will be a graveside service held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 19 at Winterset Cemetery.
