Was born October 24, 1860 near National, Clayton, Co., Ia. He came with his parents to Madison Co. in 1867. In 1881 his father died leaving the care of a large family on himself and the mother, he sharing the responsibility with patience and love ever ready to sacrifice to the comfort of others.
He was married in 1891 to Miss Luella Williams and continued to live on the old home farm until about 18 months ago, he with his family traveled to Colorado and California hoping to recuperate his health which had been failing for some time and seemingly was successful. Early last spring he with his family moved to their home in Missouri where soon his health again failed, and they came to his mothers in Van Meter on the first of May hoping the change might be beneficial but all efforts seemed fruitless and though loving hearts and willing hands did all in their power to administer to his comfort and stay the fatal hand of disease, death slowly but surely fastened upon him and claimed him for his own the morning of July 14, 1904.
He leaves a wife, 1 son, a mother, 3 brothers and 5 sisters to mourn his loss. His life was an exemplary moral one and during his sickness he willingly solemnized the will of God, and ------- his loved ones just before death that the way was bright before, and that he had no fear of death.
