Mrs. J. T. Moore died on Sunday afternoon at her home, four miles west of town. She with her husband, were among the early settlers of Madison county. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church on Tuesday.

Mahala Ann Smith, only daughter of Stafford and Nancy Smith, was born in Bartholomew county, Indiana, December 17, 1827, and departed this life May 23, 1909, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. Keith, of Scott township.

In 1844 she was married to Peter Moore. To this union were born nine children, three dying in infancy, two daughters and one son after reaching the years of maturity, have also passed away, the three other children being at her bedside at the time of her death. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, two daughters, one son and six brothers, besides a host of friends.

In 1852 she came with her husband and three children to Iowa, where she has since made her home.

In 1863 she was converted and became a charter member of the Christian church at Winterset. Being a faithful Christian from this until her death she died praising her Master, in laying away one so well loved we must add that our loss has been her gain.
