Phillip "Phil" Don Penn, 79, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was born August 13, 1934 in Winterset, Iowa to Don and Edna (Lorentz) Penn. Phil is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; children, Brian (Lori) Penn, Lorrine (Scott) Underwood, and Cindy (John) Gay; grandchildren: Nathan (Brooke) Penn, Jodi Penn, Christopher Schaffer, Courtney Schaffer, Jenna (Josh) Rappleyea, Daniel (Shaynna) Fisher, Adam Fisher, and Parker Gay; five great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon (Bill) Mitchell; and a host of other family members and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jimmy.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 31 at Grace United Methodist Church, 3700 Cottage Grove Avenue, Des Moines. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Winterset Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church in Phil's name.
