D. A. Harford was born in the state of Pennsylvania, February 28, 1828, and died February 20, 1909. In early life he moved with his parents to Ohio, where on June 3, 1848, he was married to Miss Mary Armstrong, who departed this life April 14, 1895. To this union four children were born all of whom have preceded him but Mrs. Alice Holmes, the youngest, with whom he has made his home for the past several years. The deceased came to Iowa with his family in 1856, where he has lived since.

He was a member of the Christian church, and was a faithful member living the things which he believed to be true in every day life he was kind and much interested in the last days of his life in the spiritual welfare of his neighbors.

The funeral services were held at the Christian church Tuesday at eleven o’clock, conducted by his pastor, Rev. E. E. Bennett, after the remains were laid to rest in the Rock City cemetery.

Mr. Harford was one of the early settlers in Madison county, a carpenter by trade and did much to help to make the county what it is. Another of the old residents have gone to swell the number already gone before.

Death of D. A. Hartford

Zion Hill

Mr. D. A. Hartford passed away on the 20th inst. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alice Holmes, after an illness of over six weeks. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bennett Monday at the Christian church in Winterset, after which interment was made in the Rock City cemetery beside his wife, who preceded him fourteen years. The bereaved family has the sincere sympathy of this neighborhood in their sad bereavement.
