Thursday, February 22, 1900Lucinda B. Haskett, daughter of Jacob and Mary Bales, was born the 17th of June, 1823, in Randolph county, Indiana.
In 1838 she came with her parents to Henry county, Iowa. In 1847 she married Wm. Cook and they lived near Salem until 1859 when her husband died. In 1867 she was married to Anthony Haskett and in 1888 they came to Earlham where they made many friends and were among the leading people of our town. In Mr. Haskett’s death a year ago last October, the community, as well as the home, sustained great loss. Since that time Mrs. Haskett’s life has been very lonely although she was well cared for by her nephew, Nathan Bales, and his wife, who have sacrificed much for her comfort.
In the morning of February 15, 1900, Sister Haskett breathed her last and was laid the following afternoon by the side of her husband. She gave every evidence of readiness, sustained by sweet faith in the Savior. The funeral services were held at the Friends church, of which she was a member, conducted by Rev. McGrew.
The members of the family, especially Brother and Sister Bales, express their deep appreciation and thankfulness to so many who have assisted them and many others whose services were offered from time to time during the last days of sickness and death.
