William E. Berry was born on November 8, 1859 and died at his home at Kasson, October 28, 1909, age 49 years, 11 months and 20 days. The direct cause of his death is not fully understood. About four months ago he had an attack of appendicitis, although he never fully recovered. He was able to be about as usual and there was no warning as to the seriousness of his condition until Tuesday evening, when he was taken very suddenly. Medical aid was called during his last sickness, but it was beyond their power to do more than relieve his suffering until death came.

To know him was to be his friend. Having spent his entire life here, Mr. Berry leaves a large circle of friends to mourn his loss besides his wife and four children, Milo, Herbert, Ada and little Anna, aged four months, one brother and other relatives to whom he was very dear, as it was his disposition to lend a helping hand and many will cherish the memory of kind and loving deeds, the thoughtful uplifting words spoken by him who has now passed from life unto death. Just as he made the best of life, so as the end drew near he expressed his sorrow to leave his family, but gave them the assurance he was willing to go and bade his loved ones good-bye.

Funeral services were held from the home on Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. S. Callison of Winterset, and burial was made in the Hamilton cemetery. Mr. Berry had acquired a goodly share of this world’s goods and leaves his family well provided for, but of more importance in his honest, upright life, and the love and tenderness he has bestowed upon his family, who have the sympathy of the entire community.
