Samuel Burgett died at his home here Sunday evening, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the house and interment at Orilla.

S. G. Burgett, a pioneer resident of Madison county, was born in Carroll county, Ohio, March 13, 1836, and departed from this life Nov. 21, 1909. He came to Iowa in 1856, was a resident in Poweshiek county but a short time when he moved to Madison county, where he resided at the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Leurisia Rush, Oct. 10, 1876. A wife and five children survive him. John W., Willie S., Esietha A., Minnie M., and Charlie A., all residing at home with their one parent, a beloved mother. He also leaves two brothers, the elder brother Boston Burgett of Deep River, Iowa, a younger brother in Salemville, Ohio.

He was a worker for the Lord and was always a friend to all in distress. “Blessed are they that are in the Lord from henceforth. Yea, saith the Lord that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them.”

The deceased was aged 73 years, 8 mo. and 8 days. Funeral services were preached by Rev. Dobson. The beloved husband and father was laid to rest near his son in the Orilla cemetery.
