Vernon Howard Tyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Tyer of Jefferson township, departed this life at the family home north of Winterset on December 5, 1908. He was only in his twenty-second year, having been born near Adel, Iowa on March 1, 1877. His health had been impaired for a number of years and he passed away after a brief illness.

He was full of the buoyant hopes of youth, yet the all wise Heavenly Father had other plans for him and his race of life was but short and soon run. He was a Christian young man, having been a member of the North Branch United Presbyterian church for a number of years. His was a life of trust in the Savior and he often spoke of that trust. He has passed on to be with his Lord, but he leaves an example well worth leaving to all young men—the example of a life of faith and trust in Jesus. The sad hearted ones he has left behind may well be comforted over his going, knowing that “to depart and to be with Christ is very far better.”
