Former Earlham Boy Shot

Luther Alexander, the eighteen year old son of Ad Alexander, and grandson of John Alexander, was shot and killed while robbing a room at St. Catherine’s Home in Des Moines at 6:30 Wednesday evening. Detectives Pettit and Johnson had laid a plan to capture the youths, who had of late been ----- small thefts in the neighborhood and the former was hidden ------ where the boy entered a room by a window. The funeral of Luther Alexander, the boy who was shot in Des Moines last Wednesday was held last Saturday at the home of his grandfather, John Alexander. The services were conducted by Rev. V. B. Demaree and the remains were interred in the Earlham Cemetery. The following life history of the deceased was read:

Luther Alexander was born Dec. 12, 1894, and died Jan. 31, 1912. He was born on a farm near Winterset, Ia., the family moving from there to Nebraska where they lived until the death of his mother about eight years ago. The family then returned to Earlham where they lived until about five years ago, when they moved to Des Moines where they lived at the time of his death.

Present at the funeral were Mr. Addison Alexander, and sons Fred and Frank, and daughter Goldie, Mrs. Cason, a sister-in-law of Mr. Alexander’s, and Miss Jones, a friend all of Des Moines. A large number of friends of the family also were present.
