Earlham, Iowa
1899

Another one of our old settlers has gone to his long home. On Wednesday morning of last week Tobias Nunamacker departed this life, at his home in Earlham, after an illness of but a few days, surrounded by all the members of the family except one daughter who did not receive word in time to reach home before the end came.

Deceased was born in Bucks county, Pennsylvania, May 16, 1821. At the breaking out of the rebellion he was living in Wisconsin and was among the first to offer his services to his country, and as a member of Co. A 33d Wisconsin Volunteers, he served throughout the war with fidelity and honor. At the close of the war he returned to Wisconsin and was there married to Irene Douglass on December 30, 1866. The fruits of their union were two children, Sarah Irene, a teacher at Garner, Iowa, and Mrs. Minnie Emms of Perry, Iowa. They with their mother, survive him. He died as he lived, strong in the Christian faith, being a member of the Christian church at DeSoto.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church on last Thursday afternoon at three o’clock, conducted by Rev. John Stribling. The pall bearers were all old soldiers.
