Martin J. Porter was born July 4, 1943 in Winterset, Iowa. He attended Winterset High School, graduating in 1961. After graduation he joined the U.S.Marine Corp., serving eight years, including a combat tour in Viet Nam.
He worked as an Engineer on the Chicago Northwestern railroad. He attended Oklahoma State University and worked in golf course design and management in Oklahoma City, Yukon and extending to golf courses in Thailand, Malaysia and Viet Nam. Martin moved back to Oklahoma in 2000 and retired in Shawnee.
He passed away on Jan. 1, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City, following a lenghty illness.
He was preceded in death by his father John and brother Nelson (Butch).
He is survived by his mother, Madeline Bennett and sister, Marlys Wollard, both of Des Moines, Iowa.
Martin will be greatly missed by family and many close friends around the world.
