James Madison Allen was born in Warren county, Iowa, April 12, 1852, and died at his home near Elm Grove, Oct. 1, 1910, aged 58 years, 5 months and 19 days. He was married to Leava Beem Oct 6, 1870.
To this union ten children were born. Five having preceeded him to the better land. All dying in infancy except Stella, who died at the age of 17.
He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, five children, 6 grandchildren, 2 brothers, one sister and a host of other relatives and friends.
He united with the M. E. church when a young man, later he united with the Christian Union church of which he remained a member till his death.
Funeral services were held in the Elm Grove M. E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Corkill, after which he was laid to rest in the Sayre cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Minus Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Stevens attended the funeral of Mr. Allen’s father at Elm Grove.

Darwin Stevens, who has been in North Dakota for the last five or six months, returned home Sunday to attend the funeral of his uncle, J. M. Allen. He was accompanied by his friend, Grant Beem of Elliott, N. D.

James Allen, living near Elm Grove, died of cancer of the stomach Friday. He had been operated on for relief about a week ago, but to no avail. Funeral services were conducted at Elm Grove church Monday and interment took place at the Sayre cemetery.
