Cheri Swanson, 61, of Winterset died Sunday, December 8, 2013 at her home.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 12, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 11 at Ochiltree’s where her family will be present during these times. Memorials may be directed to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue, Box 188, De Soto, Iowa 50069 and online condolences may be left for the family at ochiltree.com.

Cheri Kae Anhorn was born in Des Moines to Reuben and Eva (Standley) Anhorn. She grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School in 1970. Upon graduation, she attended college at the University of Iowa’s College of Nursing and on December 29, 1973 she married Oscar Swanson at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in West Des Moines.

Cheri worked as a secretary for the Des Moines Public Schools from 1986 until 1992 when she began her 20 year career as a Communication Secretary with the ISEA (Iowa State Education Association). She was also an active member and Past President of the ISEA Support Staff Association for many years. She enjoyed cake decorating, scrapbooking and spending time with her family.

Cheri is survived by her husband, Oscar Swanson of Winterset; daughter, Mandi Swanson of West Des Moines; son, Oscar Swanson II of Winterset; mother, Eva Anhorn of Winterset and two brothers, David Anhorn of St. Petersburg, FL and Douglas Anhorn of Atlanta, GA.

She was preceded in death by her father.
