MAXINE MAE MILLER, Texas

February 9, 1928 - October 20, 2013

Maxine Mae Miller was born on Feb. 9, 1928, in Aurelia, Iowa, to Albert and Elvina Dieterich Nielsen. She grew up in Aurelia and began her musical career as an organist. She graduated from Aurelia High School and moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to attend University of Northern Iowa where she pursued a degree in music. After her Father passed, she worked at a bank in Storm Lake. She met her future husband, Cecil, and they were married on June 25, 1950. Active members of the Church of Christ, she served as organist and pianist.

In 1957, Maxine and family moved to Truro, Iowa, where they farmed for 37 years. As member of Eastern Star and United Church of Christ she was the organist and pianist. She loved playing and teaching piano, being with family and friends and raising her three children. She was an avid reader, seamstress, favorite activities: playing piano, bridge club, cribbage, Scrabble and crossword puzzles. She passed on a love of literature and music.

Maxine began working in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1964. Over the next 30 years, she worked as a bookkeeper for Iowa Farm Bureau, AIG Contractors of Iowa, Bob Flannigan of Environmental Engineers and Architect James Lynch. They sold the farm and moved to West Des Moines, and Cecil continued to help his son-in-law farm in Texas. Maxine continued working a few years before her retirement. The next years were filled with wonderful times spent with children, grandchildren, family and friends.

In May 2004, Cecil and Maxine moved to Plano, Texas, to be closer to family. Within 10 months, Cecil passed of lung cancer (March 11, 2005). Upon diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, Maxine lived with her eldest daughter and eventually moved to assisted living, where she enjoyed all her favorite things and made new friends. On Oct. 20, 2013, she passed at the age of 85.
