Andrew Schutz was born at Tanghau, Beru, Switzerland, February 28, 1830. Came to America in the spring of 1856 and settled in Ohio.
He emigrated to Iowa in 1858 locating in Iowa City. Came to Madison county in 1866, where he has since resided on the same farm covering a period of 42 years.
He was married to Barbara Ellen Hatter, of Ohio, October 20, 1866. There were eight children born to this union, Warren F., Clarence E., Curtis C., Curtie A., two twin brothers, unnamed, who died in infancy, Permelia, Alice and Fred A.
He passed away at 7:30 Sunday evening, Dec. 20, 1908, aged 78 years, 9 months and 22 days. One son, Warner F., having passed away at the age of 10 years. There are left to mourn their loss the wife, four sons, one daughter and seven grandchildren.
His funeral was held from his home on Tuesday afternoon, December 22, 1908, at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Beveridge, who chose for his text Thessalonians 7-13. His body was laid to rest in the Kivett cemetery.
