Death of James B. Starr

James B. Starr passed away at his home in Winterset on April 16th. He had not been in good health for a few weeks, and an attack of quinsy caused a serious condition, which became critical on Friday. Mr. Starr had lived in Madison county nearly 60 years, in or near Winterset. He is survived by Mrs. Starr, two sons, Charles of this county and C. A. Starr of York, N.D.; also a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Callison of Lincoln township. One daughter, Mrs. E. E. Bertholf, died several years ago.

Funeral services were held in the United Presbyterian church this afternoon conducted by Rev. S. J. Malone.

James B. Starr was born in Richmond, Ohio, March 15, 1854. Departed this life at Winterset, Iowa, April 16, 1922, aged 68 years, 1 months and 1 day. When he was nine years old, the family emigrated to Iowa, his mother dying en route at Chicago, Ill. He came to Winterset in 1863 and has lived in this vicinity ever since.

He was married to Miss Jane Purcell, April 29, 1875. Immediately after their marriage they moved to their farm five miles southwest of Winterset where they lived for 35 years. Retiring in 1910, they moved to Winterset.

From this union were born four children, two daughters: Mrs. Clara Bertholf, who died in 1906, and Mrs. Pearl Callison of Winterset; also two sons: Chas. G. Starr of Winterset and Clarence A. Starr of York, N.D. who together with his widow, two sisters and ten grandchildren, many neighbors and friends and his brethren in the church, remain to mourn his loss.

Mr. Starr accepted Christ as his Savior and Joined the United Presbyterian church under the ministry of Rev. T. V. Dugan, on Feb. 11, 1912. He was faithful and earnest in his Christian life, always ready to perform the duties which came to him as one of the members of the official board.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19th at the United Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. S. J. Malone. The body was laid to rest in the Clark cemetery, ten miles from Winterset.
