After a long illness, Mrs. Bennett fell asleep Tuesday noon, March 21. Hers was the sleep that finds its awakening in that realm known as The Great Beyond. She was born April 24, 1848. Had she lived little more than a month longer, she would have been 74 years old.

Her birthplace was in Grundy county, Illinois. Here she grew to womanhood. On Sept. 19, 1875, she was married to Maynard William Bennett. Her maiden name was Elsie Sophia Sinclair. Six years of married life was spent in this vicinity.

In the spring of 1881, they came west and located on a farm in Madison county, ten miles south of Dexter. In the fall of 1918, when age and ill health demanded a cessation from the constant toil of farm life, they moved to Dexter. March 7, 1920, Mr. Bennett passed away.

Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bennett, both of whom died years ago. Of their own family, there is but one grandchild, Nellie Marie Bennett, who made her home with them and cared for her grandmother during these years.

Mrs. Bennett was a member of the Baptist church. Her more than 40 years of continuous residence in this community classed her as one of our pioneers. She shared all of the hardships and trials of those farming days. How rapidly that generation is passing. It will be only a few more years we can hear the story of those days from the lips of those that experienced them. Mrs. Bennett had been in poor health for a long time. She was highly esteemed as a neighbor and a friend.

Two brothers and two sisters mourn her death. They are George and Art Sinclair, Mrs. Henry Burnham of Mazon, Ill., and Mrs. Robert Howe of Ottawa, Kans.; also a niece, Mrs. W. H. Taylor of Earlham.

Funeral services were held March 23d at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. Peter Jacobs. Interment was made in the Earlham cemetery.
