Ella Imogene was born on July 28th, 1924 to Vern & Goldie (Handley) Thomas in rural Adair County Iowa. She attended a one room rural school and graduated from Orient High School. After attending Simpson College, she worked for Tri State Theatre Company before marriage.

On September 22nd 1946 she was united in marriage to Orlo L. Wilmeth at the Methodist Church in Orient, Iowa. They moved to Des Moines in 1948 and have resided there ever since. For 15 years, Imy worked for Brenton Bank, retiring in 1989.

Imogene was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church for over sixty years. Her participation and leadership in the Kum-Dubl Sunday school class lasted for forty years. She volunteered for many church activities. An active member of PEO, Imogene was a great hostess. She loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and Canada along with several tours overseas, but always was delighted to be back at home in Des Moines.

Imy is survived by her husband Orlo, son William L. Wilmeth and wife Mary (Medema), son Thomas L. Wilmeth and wife Ellie (Toensing), granddaughter Cindy and grandson Dylan. She enjoyed all aspects of family life. Also survived by a twin brother Gene H. Thomas and wife Mary Susan (Lynn) and sister Roberta (Thomas) Stoddard along with a host of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her sister, Annadell (Thomas) Erb.

Imogene was a loving wife and mother, and always had a radiant smile and kind word for everyone. Beautiful flowers graced her home in all seasons. All who knew and loved her will miss her. Memorials in her name may be given to Grace United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite Park Good Life Fund or Iowa Hospice. Iles Family Funeral Homes is making arrangements.

Deepest appreciation is extended to the staff that attended to Imogene while she was in assisted living and the care center at Scottish Rite Park.
