CHARLES ASMUS "CHARLIE" MAFFIN, Earlham

Charles Asmus "Charlie" Maffin, 77, of Earlham, Iowa passed away, August 30, 2013 at his home. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Earlham Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 3, at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Burial will be in the Penn Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles Maffin Memorial Fund in Care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 171, Earlham, Iowa 50072. Charlie as he was known by family and friends was born December 26, 1935 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Howard and Viola Jurgensen Maffin. He grew up in Cherokee and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1954. While in high school, Charlie worked for his parent's dry cleaning business. After graduating, He enlisted into the United States Army and after being honorably discharged attended Buena Vista college in Storm Lake. Charlie was united in marriage to Judith Hagenbucher on January 5, 1958 in Marcus, Iowa and together they became the proud parents of three children, Becky, Chuck and Matt. Charlie started working for the Department of Transportation in Cherokee before being promoted to the rest area supervisor of Central Iowa. It was at this time Charlie and his family moved to Van Meter to be more centrally located. While living in Van Meter, Charlie was active with the Methodist Church and many community organizations. Charles Married Marilyn Davis Glenn on October 5, 1985 in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church and together they made their home on a farm south of Earlham. Charlie's main hobbies were his livestock and his farm, and greatly enjoyed the company of his friends and family.

Charlie is preceded in death by his father, Howard Maffin, mother, Viola Davis, stepfather, Russell Davis, stepdaughter, Cindy Glenn, brother, Rodney Maffin.

Charlie is survived by his wife Marilyn of Earlham, Iowa; children, Becky (Steve) Massure of DeSoto and their children, Michelle and Wade, Chuck (Lydia) Maffin of Van Meter and their children Jesse, Kelsey and Haley , Matt (Sue) Maffin of Earlham and their children Bryan (Lisa) Porter and great granddaughter (Grace) and Tricia (Brad) Newcomb, and special 4 legged friend Katie, two stepchildren, the late Cindy Glenn and her children, Dan (Ashley) and great granddaughter (Lola), Tom and Mitch Mayer and Brian (Ann) Glenn and their son Joe; siblings, Gary (Charlotte) Maffin of Idaho, Velda (Burt) Faust of Paullina, Iowa, Doris (Chuck) Carlson of Cherokee, Mike (Cynthia) Maffin of Spirit Lake and Bob Maffin of Washington, D.C. a host of nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
