Mark Van Werden, 45, Osceola: Formerly of Winterset, Mark Van Werden died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at his home. Memorial services: 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola. MARK VAN WERDEN, OSCEOLA

Mark Van Werden, 45 of Osceola, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Mark William Van Werden, son of Larry P. Van Werden and Dotti Gene (Don Carlos) Van Werden was born Sept. 27, 1967 in Osceola, Iowa. Mark was very active young man growing up in Osceola. He was in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, played little league, and enjoyed being outdoors. He played football, basketball and ran track in high school. He graduated from Clarke Community High School in 1986. He attended college and was one year from completing his finance degree. He worked in landscaping for Earl May and recently worked in the Pepsi warehouse in Des Moines, he was a very hard worker. Mark was a very devoted father.

He is preceded in death by his infant son, Morgan W.E. Van Werden; grandparents, Waldo and Dorothy Don Carlos, and Charles and Virginia Van Werden.

He is survived by his daughter, Kynlee Brooke Van Werden of Winterset; parents, Larry and Dotti Van Werden of Osceola; brother, Doug Van Werden of Osceola; sister, Christi Van Werden of Phoenix, AZ, brother, Mike Van Werden of San Diego, CA as well as other relatives and many friends.

Services were held Saturday, Aug. 17, at Kale Funeral Home - Osceola, with Pastor Chuck DeVos officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to Clarke County Animal Shelter (125 E. Ayers, Osceola IA 50213).
