EDNA DARLING, Winterset

Edna died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. She was 94.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 28 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. A visitation with family present will be held prior to services on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery in Fonda, Iowa at a later date. Memorials may be directed to C.R.I.S.P. of Winterset. Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.ochiltree.com.

She is survived by her children, Dee Anne Van Horn of Ankeny and Donald (Linda) Darling of Winterset; a sister, Vivian Madsen of Pocahontas; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Henrich of Newell; three grandchildren, Chad Van Horn, Matthew Darling, and Jason Darling; six great-grandchildren, Taylor McCombs, Kailee Van Horn, Easton Darling, Avary Darling, Cole Darling, and Kate Darling.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Minnie (Olson) Carlson; her husband, Merlyn Darling; a son-in-law, Mike Van Horn; and a granddaughter, Tracey McCombs.

EDNA DARLING, Winterset

Edna Darling, 94, of Winterset died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 28 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial will be in the Cedar Cemetery in Fonda, Iowa, at a later date. Memorials may be directed to C.R.I.S.P. of Winterset.

Edna Louise Carlson was born in Fonda, Iowa, on May 24, 1918, the daughter of Emil and Minnie (Olson) Carlson. On March 2, 1940, she was united in marriage to Merlyn Darling and he preceded her in death in October 2004. Edna was a homemaker most of her life. She was a bookkeeper for her husband’s Mobil business for a time and during WW II. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Fonda, where she played the organ for many years. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Storm Lake where she sang in the choir, and attended the Methodist Church in Winterset since moving here. Edna was also a member of the WE-FEW Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlyn; a son-in-law, Mike Van Horn; and a granddaughter, Tracey McCombs.

She is survived by her children, Dee Anne Van Horn of Ankeny and Donald (Linda) Darling of Winterset; a sister, Vivian Madsen of Pocahontas; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Henrich of Newell; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
