WAYNE K. ROBINSON, Winterset

September 30, 1927 - May 22, 2013

Wayne K. Robinson, 85, of Winterset died on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 25 at the First Christian Church in Winterset with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 24 at Ochiltree’s with family present to receive from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church and/or Friends of the Winterset Library.

Wayne was born September 30, 1927 at home in rural Madison County to Vivian and Edna (Kaye) Robinson. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1946 after missing a year of school when he was stricken with polio. On November 22, 1953, he married Ruby Leeper at the Early Chapel Christian Church and they had 59 years together. This union was blessed with two children, Dianne and Douglas.

He was a truck driver for many years and owned and operated his own rock truck, hauling limestone to help build I-80 and I-35. Later he retired from Circle B Cashway Lumber Co after working for 25 years as a company truck driver.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Winterset where he was an Elder Emeritus and he was also a lifetime member of the Madison County Historical Society. Something he was quite proud of was his acting part in the movie The Bridges of Madison County.

He was a loving husband, dad and granddad who enjoyed so much being with family and friends. In his youth he was given the nickname “Baldy” which was a strange name for someone with a thick head of hair but for most of his life most people never knew his real name. Wayne enjoyed traveling and he and Ruby wintered in Arizona for 15 years until his health prevented him from going.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Robinson of Winterset; daughter, Dianne (Joel) Henke of Winterset; son, Douglas (Teresa) Robinson of Cedar Rapids; and one brother, Delmar (Joan) Robinson of Paonia, Colorado. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Andrew (Breanne) Robinson; Amber Robinson, all of Cedar Rapids; extended family and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Delbert.
