Services for Monsignor John J. Reynolds, 78, of Atlantic, formerly of Des Moines who died of cancer Tuesday at the Bishop Drumm Care Center, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at Irish Settlement near Cumming. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born in Ireland, Monsignor Reynolds had lived in Des Moines 42 years until his retirement to Atlantic in 1972. He was an assistant pastor at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Visitation Catholic Church, both in Des Moines, and Assumption Catholic Church in Granger. He served as pastor of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Woodbine, All Saints Parish in Stuart, and All Saints Parish in Des Moines.

Monsignor Reynolds was a member of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and was appointed Des Moines Diocesan Consultor in 1962. He was honored with the Domestic Prelate in October 1963.

Survivors include a brother Francis of New York, N.Y., and three sisters, Anne Donnelly, Margaret Brady and Nellie Gillen, all of Ireland.

A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Meis Catholic Church.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. at St. Meis.

McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
