Irma was born December 1, 1928 in Dubuque, Iowa to Lee Roy and Florence Charlotte Burghardt Beckett. She was raised in Des Moines and graduated from East High School in 1947. After graduating, Irma worked as a nurse's aide at Methodist Hospital. She was united in marriage to Leland Marion Hindman on February 27, 1950 in Des Moines. She and Leland met at the Midtown Roller Skating Rink when she asked him to skate. This union was blessed with four children, DeWayne, Marvin, Carolyn, and Barbara. After their marriage they moved to Leland's farm outside of Earlham. She kept herself busy by tending to the children, working in the garden, or occasionally helping Leland on the farm. Irma and Leland attended Fairview Methodist Church for a short time before attending Worthington Methodist Church for over 20 years. In 1978 they became members of the Earlham Church of Christ. Irma and Leland continued to farm until 1981 when they retired and moved in to Earlham. After Leland's passing on February 28, 2006, she came to live with her daughter Carolyn, and then 5 years ago moved to Manor Care Health Services in West Des Moines. Irma enjoyed attending church activities, playing bingo, word games and spending time with her family.

Irma is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Leland, her son, Marvin, brothers, Kenneth and Harold Beckett and an infant granddaughter, Katie Taft.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, DeWayne Hindman (Diana) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Carolyn Taft (Chuck) of Van Meter, Iowa, and Barbara Dawn (Paul) of Waukee, Iowa; grandchildren, Julie (Mike) Penrod, Debbie (Eric) Ruckdaschel, Brenda (Andrew) Webber, Jamie (Jake) Bishop, Ryan Taft, Paul Dawn, and Mary Dawn; great grandchildren, Tyler (Kelsey Sulzbacher) Penrod, Alyssa Penrod, Myla Ruckdaschel, Erica Ruckdaschel, Chris Webber, David Webber, and Baby Bishop on the way; one great-great granddaughter, Avah Sulzbacher; brother Eldon (Jo Ann) Beckett of Des Moines, sister-in-law, Doris Beckett of Des Moines and many nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
