Thomas Albert Doud

Thomas Albert Doud, second son of the late James and Alice Hartley Doud, was born September 12, 1880 in Madison County, near Winterset, Iowa. He passed away May 2, 1972 at the Community Care Center in Stuart, having attained the age of 91 years, eight months and 20 days.

As a child he moved with his parents to Adair County where he received his education in rural schools. When he grew to manhood, he became engaged in farming in Harrison township.

On February 1, 1906, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Lydon. To this union was born five children: Ina (Mrs. Delbert) Belgard of Stuart; Edwin Francis Doud, deceased; Marie (Mrs. Clarence) Lane of Greenfield; Wayne Doud of Stuart; Helen (Mrs. Kenneth) Eagan of Mesa, Arizona.

They spent forty-seven years of their married life on farms in Harrison township. In 1953, they retired from the farm and moved to Stuart where they purchased their home on Fourth and Division Streets.

After the death of his wife on August 27, 1963, he lived alone in his home where he was ably cared for by his housekeeper, Mrs. Calla Couch. Three months ago, his health failed, and he was taken to the Community Care Center.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Edwin Doud, four brothers, and two sisters.

Survivors are his three daughters, one son, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; one daughter in law and one brother.
