James McCauley Dies at 62 Years

Death Thanksgiving Day for Veteran of First World War

James S. McCauley of Winterset died at his home here on Nov. 27, Thanksgiving day, at the age of 62 years.

Mr. McCauley was born in Bevington on March 29, 1896, a son of Alexander and Rebecca McCauley. His early life was spent in the county, and he served in the U.S. army during World War I.

He was married in 1927 to Mary Olive Hogue. They lived in South Dakota for 15 years. She died in 1944, and he then returned to Winterset.

He was married a second time to Ellen A. Johnston of this community.

He was a member of Green Rogers post of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Juanita Irene McCauley, who is stationed at Ft. Meade, Md., with the U.S. armed forces, four brothers, Tom McCauley of St. Marys, John McCauley of Creston, and Dick and Ted McCauley of Winterset; and four sisters, Mrs. Margaret Stanfield of Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Graham and Mrs. Rebecca Francis of Winterset, and Mrs. Elizabeth Krebiehl of Chicago.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

Ayr.

Also Mr. and Mrs. Harley Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Todd, Mrs. Maggie Stanfield, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Foran and Miss Bertha McCauley, Jr. of Carlisle, Gerald McCauley of Milo, John McCauley of Creston, Mr. and Mrs. Tom McCauley, Mrs. Lambert Bromel an Donald McCauley all of St. Marys.
