James Stump Service Held at St. Charles

Funeral services for James A. Stump of Osceola, who died Nov. 8, at a nursing home in that city, were held Nov. 10 from the St. Charles Church of Christ, with the Rev. Earl Travis officiating, assisted by a former pastor there, the Rev. Joe King. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Mr. Stump spent most of his life in and around Madison county. He was 71 years of age at his death.

A son of Aaron and Sarah Connally Stump, he was born in Dallas county Aug. 6, 1892. He was married Aug. 11, 1915, to Ethel I. Chase. They were parents of 12 children. One son, Gerald, was killed in action during World War II while serving with the U.S. armed forces. His wife, a daughter, Helen Jean, and two infant sons also preceded him in death.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Opal Sinclair of Des Moines, Mrs. Odean McKnight of New Virginia, and Mrs. Darlene Walker of St. Charles; five sons, Charles A. and James L. Stump, both of Des Moines, Neal Stump of Osceola, Ivan D. Stump of St. Charles, and Earnest L. Stump of Winterset; 25 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Claud Stump of DeSoto.

James Arthur Stump, son of Aaron and Sarah Connally Stump, was born in Dallas county on August 6, 1892, and passed away at the Story Nursing Home in Osceola, on Nov. 8, 1963, at the age of 71 years, three months, and two days.

Mr. Stump moved to Clarke county in 1958, however, most of his life was spent in and around Madison county.

On Aug. 11, 1915, he was united in marriage with Ethel Irene Chase, and to this union twelve children were born. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the St. Charles Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Gerald who was killed in World War II, a daughter, Helen Jean and two infant sons.

Mr. Stump leaves to mourn his passing three daughters: Mrs. Opal Sinclair of Des Moines; Mrs. Odean McKnight of New Virginia, and Mrs. Darlene Walker of St. Charles; five sons, Charles Artist and James Lloyd both of Des Moines; Neal of Osceola; Ivan Dale of St. Charles, and Earnest Lyle of Winterset; 25 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one brother, Claud Stump of DeSoto, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the St. Charles Church of Christ November 10th. Webster Funeral Home of Osceola was in charge. The Reverend Travis officiated at the service, with the former pastor, Joe King, speaking words of comfort. Interment was in the St. Charles cemetery.
