James Slayden Rites Thursday

Services for James E. Slayden, 23, of 4020 S.E. First St., will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Tonini Funeral Home. Burial will be at Baptist Cemetery in Winterset.

Mr. Slayden died of pneumonia Sunday at Broadlawns Polk County Hospital. He was a watch repairman. He lost both legs in an auto accident when he was 6 years old. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his stepfather, William Bice; his father, Ammon Slayden; a stepbrother, Billy E. Johnson; a brother, Wayne Slayden, and three sisters, Mrs. Richard Weed and Mrs. Augustine Ortiz of Des Moines and Mrs. Robert Gillispie of Runnells.
