Grace Adelia Brown, 95, died Tues., May 19 at Winterset Care Center South of complications following a stroke. Services were held May 22 at Merle Hay Funeral Home, Des Moines.
She was born in Nemaha County, Kan., on February 5, 1897 to John and Mary (Miller) Williams and married Wesley Brown on February 5, 1924 in Des Moines. She was a teacher and lived in Des Moines most of her life until moving to the care center in 1985.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and three grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons, Ted of Camarillo, Calif. and Don of Oxnard, Calif.; three daughters, Lena Hirsch of Dexter, Mary Hale of Weslaco, Texas, and Kathleen Nuzum of Des Moines,; three sisters, Lillian Sheesley of West Des Moines, Daisy Peterson of Pleasant Hill and Frances Thompson of Sacramento, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and several great-and great-great grandchildren.
Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery, Pleasant Hill.
