Dan Silverthorn Dies at 82

Oliver Daniel Silverthorn, 82, of Winterset, died last Sunday at Horton’s Nursing Home in Winterset. He had been a farmer and lived most of his life in Monroe township of Madison County.

Mr. Silverthorn was born February 7, 1890 in Madison County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Silverthorn. He was married to Eva Belle Brady on December 24, 1912 at the home of her parents in Madison County.

Besides his wife, Mr. Silverthorn is survived by three sons: Dale Silverthorn of Norwalk, Dean Silverthorn of Willow Springs, Missouri, and Dwight Silverthorn of Lorimor; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Rogers of Tuscon, Arizona, and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cleo Silverthorn, his parents, two half-sisters and one half-brother.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Updike in charge. The burial was made at Moon Cemetery near Macksburg.

Macksburg Burial for Dan Silverthorn

Oliver Daniel Silverthorn, son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Hower Silverthorn, was born in Grand River Township, of Madison County, on February 7, 1890 and died on July 16, 1972 at Horton’s Nursing Home near Winterset.

He was married to Eva Belle Brady on December 24, 1912 in the home of her parents in Madison County. He spent most of his life in Monroe Township engaged in farming. Upon retiring in 1966 they moved to Winterset where his wife now resides.

Surviving him are his wife, Eva; three sons, Dale of Norwalk, Iowa, Dean of Willow Springs, Missouri and Dwight of Lorimor; one sister, Mrs. Hazel Rogers of Tuscon, Arizona; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his only daughter, Cleo Belle; his mother and father; two brothers, Neal and Weaver; three half sisters, Pearl, Grace and Bessie; and one half-brother, Elmo.

Funeral services for Mr. Silverthorn were held July 18 from Collins Funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Updike officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery near Macksburg.
