Miss Vada Bennett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Bennett, was born in Douglas township, Madison county, Ia., Aug. 23, 1864. She united in marriage with M. F. Shepherd in 1880 and died in Gladstone, Minn., Dec. 9, 1907. Her husband, one son and two daughter survive her. They with her mother and six brothers mourn her loss. She was an affectionate wife and mother, always kind and true.

A large company of friends assembled at the old homestead last Thursday afternoon to extend their sympathy to the bereaved family. The casket was loaded with roses and set pieces. The funeral service, at her own request, was conducted by the Presbyterian pastor, Rev. J. S. Corkey, who spoke from the text "Be Ye Also Ready". The burial was in the old family burial ground near the farm.
