Thomas Baker, 74 Died At Macksburg

Thomas N. Baker, long-time Macksburg resident, died at his home there on July 20, 1971. He was 74 years of age at death.

Mr. Baker was born at Bedford, Iowa on March 22, 1897. His parents were John and Sarah Baker.

At the age of 20, Mr. Baker came to Madison County where he was married to Neva Melinda Porter on May 4, 1927 at Macksburg. He worked in that area as a barber and telephone maintenance man.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Neva, and four children, Jean (Mrs. Ralph Eyerly) of Macksburg, Helen (Mrs. Andrew Schutz) of Pueblo, Colorado, Clara Porter of Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Marilyn (Mrs. Robert Janes) of Faribault, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Shephard of Scranton, Kansas, also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services were held at the Macksburg United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday July 24, with the Rev. Will Grant officiating. Burial was in the Moon Cemetery at Macksburg.
