Leo C. Hamand Buried at Peru

Funeral services were held last Thursday from the First United Methodist church in Winterset for Leo C. Hamand, whose death had occurred Feb. 1 at his home in Cedar Falls.

Mr. Hamand was 60 years of age at his death. He was born at Peru Aug. 21, 1910, a son of Leonard and Versa Hiatt Hamand. For 30 years he engaged in the grocery business in Peru, but moved to Cedar Falls seven years ago where he had worked for an auction company.

He was married March 15, 1932, at Bethany, Mo., to Frieda Farr, who survives him.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Winterset, and the Evening Star chapter at Truro. He was also a member of the Za-Ga-Zig shrine.

He was a member of the Methodist church at Peru.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Joe Hamand of Des Moines; a granddaughter; his mother, Mrs. Versa Hiatt of Davis City; and four sisters, Mrs. Velma Williams of Davis City, Mrs. Esther Brown of Allerton, Mrs. Louise Showers of St. Charles and Mrs. Reba Thompson of Mitchellville.

The Rev. Newton Coughenour of Winterset and the Rev. Paul Hann of Des Moines conducted the funeral services here Thursday. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
