Funeral services for Loren Chester Shannon, 63, whose death occurred in Keokuk, Ia., Jan.3, 1936, where held in the First Methodist Episcopal church in Stillwater, Jan. 6, at 2 P.M. The Rev. J. A. Callan and the Rev. Fred Mesch, the latter of Cushing, officiating. Burial was in Perkins cemetery under direction of Strude Funeral home.
L. C. Shannon was born in Madison county, Iowa, March 21, 1872. He was married to Gertrude Moore, of Perkins, a Chandler, on Christmas day in 1896. She preceded him in death on April 14, 1932.
Two sons were born to them, both of whom survive the father. They are Raymond Shannon, of New York City, and Cecil Shannon of Keokuk. He leaves also, one granddaughter, Mary Lou Shannon of New York. He leaves on brother, L. O. Shannon of Stillwater, and one sister, Mrs. Nellie Buchanan, of Des Moines, Iowa. There are two half-sisters and one half-brother.
L. C. Shannon came from Iowa when he was 16 and settled in Perkins. He lived here until sixteen years ago when the Shannons moved to Stillwater, where they lived until after Mrs. Shannon's death. Since that time, he has lived on his farm, 4 miles south of Stillwater. Three weeks ago he went to Keokuk to visit his son, death taking him there.
In 1910, Shannon was converted and joined the Perkins Methodist church and from that time was active in church work.
Upon going to Stillwater, the family joined the M. E. church there and he was a member of the board of stewards for many years.
