Life-Long Resident of This Community was 80 Years of Age
Nellie Callahan, a life-long resident of the Winterset community, died Friday, Nov. 18, at a Des Moines hospital. She was 80 years of age.
Miss Callahan’s death resulted from burns received a week before, when her clothing caught fire, apparently from a cigarette. She had been taken to the Des Moines hospital for treatment of the burns.
She was born at Winterset Feb. 22, 1886, a daughter of Patrick and Catherine Flynn Callahan. Her life was spent in this community.
She never married, and the nearest surviving relative is a brother, Tom Callahan, of Harve, Mont., and a nephew and two nieces.
Rosary services were held Monday evening from Collins Funeral home in Winterset with requiem Mass Tuesday morning from St. Joseph’s Catholic church here, with the pastor, Msgr. John W. Higgins presiding.
Burial was made in St. Patrick’s cemetery in Lee township.
